    Notes
    • Arthur was the great grandson of William Farrand, Esq,Police Magistrate, who arrived in Forbes in 1860,calling his residence "Bolton Farm",and who presided over the inquest held in Forbes, New South Wales,on Saturday the 6th of May, 1865, into the death of the bushranger Ben Hall.

After the inquest at Forbes,William was relocated to Wentworth ,due to the widespread ill feeling surrounding the inquest findings. He would never return to Forbes , or see his wife and family again.
Besides being the first Police Magistrate in the district ,William also founded the first Newspaper in Forbes,The Lachlan Recorder,in partnership with a Mr Whitton.

The Queanbeyan Age ,16th Feb ,1871 reported- "From the meagre accounts to hand by telegraph, it appears that the lamented gentleman had returned to Wentworth on Monday afternoon, after travelling in the hot sun for some distance up the river where he had held a court. He drank large quantities of cold water on the road and this made him unwell. On the day of his death, however he was much better until late in the evening when he was about retiring for the night. He laid down on the sofa in the sitting-room, and a gentleman who had been keeping him company during the evening, was still in the room reading, and his attention being attracted to Mr Farrand he went over to him and discovered that he was dead or dying. A doctor was immediately summoned, but the poor gentleman was beyond all earthly aid."

Although William relocated, his wife Mary(Nee Barrow) and their children, remained in Forbes.William died in Wentworth on 14th Feb 1871,His wife Mary died on the 6th June ,1874,at Camp Hill,Forbes. She was fifty fours years of age.

(At dawn on 5th May 1865, the bushranger Ben Hall was surrounded by the police at Billabong Creek, near Forbes NSW and shot to death. On the following day, 6th May 1865, a Magisterial Inquiry was held at Forbes, presided over by the Police Magistrate, William Farrand.)
